Patented Ingenuity: The Art of African American Inventions features the art of African American Inventors patent drawings. These works are part of the museum’s collection of over 600 patent documents donated by historian Patricia Sluby. These intricate images were brought together to explore the aesthetic of these drawings and to celebrate the ingenuity of African American Inventors.

Public Programs for ‘Patented Ingenuity’

 

Past events held were:

• Family Day at the Museum –  Saturday, July 25^th – 12pm-4pm Families are invited to spend the day at the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center (PGAAMCC)!   The theme for the day is INVENTION!  Parents and children will learn more about Black inventors and how their inventions contributed to our history while enjoying story time, art/science activities, and more. 

•  Inventors Forum – Saturday, August 15^th – 1pm-3pm                   African American Inventors throughout Prince George’s County will participate in an Inventors Forum at PGAAMCC.   Speakers will share their stories, triumphs, and contributions to the world of science and technology.

 

•  Patent Workshop (with Dr. Patricia Carter Sluby) –  Saturday, September 12^th – 1:pm-2:30pm   Do you have an invention and want to learn more about the patent process?  Dr. Patricia Sluby will lead a Patent workshop that explores the patent process and different forms of intellectual property.  Dr. Sluby has been a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for 30 years and has authored the book The Inventive Spirit of African Americans: Patented Ingenuity.
