Songs for Janie: A Theatrical Concert featuring Tamara Wellons

May 12 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm UTC+0

$25.00

Tamara Wellons brings to Prince George’s County the masterfully conceptual album, theatrical concert and interpretation of Zora Neale Hurston’s literary classic, Their Eyes Were Watching God. Tamara has performed selections from the album alongside prize-winning author Alice Walker (The Color Purple), and she also staged a robust theatrical presentation of the work before a sold-out audience at the 2013 DC Black Theater Festival directed by Nicole Morgan. This album concept was craftfully created by cultural architect and professor, Risikat Okedeyi for a 2012 music project release. It has grown into a poignant and well-received production. Tamara’s music serves as a 21st Century epilogue to the 1937 story of Womanhood, Self-Worth, Freedom, and Love.
